FANTASTIC NEWS THE NEW CANOES HAVE ARRIVED

Yaseen is having a look over the boat he will be having a paddle in later this year
This is just a quick glimpse of the model of boats the Rochdale Borough Disability Sports and Leisure Forum and Hollingworth Lake Water Activity Centre have purchased through partnership. A large part of the funding came from the British Canoe Union, Canoe Foundation. There are another 3 stored inside.
The new arrival of the boats is fantastic news. Hollingworth Lake Water Activity Centre did have some boats but due to there design weren't really suitable for disability usage. This particular model of boat is much easier to adapt making it very suitable for a very wide range of uses including technical river running to having a pleasant paddle around a flat calm lake.
2007 will probably be HLWAC's busiest year to date in terms of disability usage due to the boats and the number of sessions already booked. Amongst those sessions will be another Sunsport programme, a water sports taster day and individually booked sessions.
In addition to these boats the Forum also hopes to purchase a mobile
hoist which will make it much easier assist people getting into boats.

Rochdale Football Club Donation
Sunsport received a fantastic boost too its funds when Rochdale Football Club donated £1666. Recent changes to the Football Association Community Shield fund enabled a change in the football clubs choosing where money should go. Rochdale Gateway who manage Sunsport were singled out along with two other Rochdale based Charities to receive the money. This donation will be of huge benefit covering such costs as transport, support workers and activities.
Big thanks to Rochdale Football Club
