Buddy Scheme

RBDSLF montage

Sporting Buddy Scheme is a new local accreditation award put together by the Rochdale Borough Disability Sports and Leisure Forum.

The award has been developed to provide support and advice on how to make your facilities more accessible for disabled people.

Participation levels by disabled people are still a fraction of able-bodied people. There are 24% less disabled people than non-disabled people participating in sports and less than 1% of disabled participants are involved in specialist sports clubs. The award will support voluntary, trust, private and local government sports and physical activity providers.

The awards is divided into three levels;

Bronze Award. The first steps to developing access

Silver Award. Demonstrating own initiative in providing access

Gold Award. Self sufficient in supporting disabled people

The award is not a legally binding document or part of the Disability Discrimination Act. It is here purely to give encouragement and guidelines for people to develop disability access.

The links below provide an overview of the award and requirements to achieve the awards.
